Our commitment to your privacy
Roofing Score (“Roofing Score”, “we”, “us”) is an independent online directory and ranking of roofing companies in Canada. We respect your privacy and handle personal information in line with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the privacy laws that apply in your province.
This policy explains what we collect, why, who sees it and what choices you have. It applies to this website. By using the site or sending us information, you accept this policy.
What we collect and how we use it
We collect only what we need for the purpose described.
- Listing applications (Get listed form): company name, website, city, year founded, contact email, plan of interest and services. We use it to review the company, contact you and create or update a profile.
- Reviews: your name, rating and review text, and your email address. Your name and review are shown only after we have checked them. Your email is never shown. We use it to moderate reviews and to contact you about a review if needed.
- Quote requests: your name, your phone number or email, and the type of work you need. We use it to keep a record of your request and, when this feature is switched on, to pass it to the company you chose.
- Messages about a company profile (report incorrect data, make an update, get verified): your name, email, phone number, role at the company and the details you send. We use it to check and correct information and to confirm that a person speaks for a company.
- Technical information: our servers record your IP address, browser type, the pages you open and the time. We use it to keep the site secure and working.
- Company information: profiles contain business details that companies publish themselves, such as business name, services and business phone number. This is information about a business, not about a private person.
We do not currently use advertising or analytics cookies. If we add them, we will update this policy and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
Parties to whom we disclose your personal information
- Public display. A company profile, and the name and text of an approved review, are public. Do not put anything in a review that you do not want published.
- Companies. A quote request or message meant for a company is shared with that company.
- Service providers. We use providers for hosting, databases, email and spreadsheets. For example, listing applications are stored in a Google Sheets spreadsheet. These providers may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States, and are bound by their own privacy terms.
- Legal reasons. We may disclose information when the law requires it, to respond to a valid legal request, or to protect our rights, our users or the public.
- Business changes. If Roofing Score is sold or reorganised, personal information may be transferred to the new owner, who must continue to protect it under this policy.
We do not sell personal information.
Non-personal information
We may use anonymous or combined information, such as how many people visit a page, to understand and improve the site. This information does not identify you and may be shared publicly or with partners.
Privacy of children
Roofing Score is intended for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to submit a review, request or application. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Consent and opt-out
By sending us information through a form, you consent to its use as described in this policy. You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us, although we may then be unable to provide the related service.
We send commercial email only to people who have agreed to receive it, in line with Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Every such message has an unsubscribe option. Messages about your own application, review or request are service messages and may be sent without that option.
How to access and correct your personal information
You may ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Send your request to the address below. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we aim to respond within 30 days.
- To correct or remove a company profile, or to ask us to review a score, send us the details and supporting documents, for example a licence, an insurance certificate or warranty terms. See how we score.
- To ask us to remove a review you wrote, contact us with the name and company it concerns.
Retention and security
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above or as the law requires, and then delete or anonymise it. We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, but no system is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If a change is significant, we will say so on the site.
